- Music Librarian, Victoria Conservatory of Music in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Main Job Duties:
As the sole librarian, I run the music library, including: administrative duties, reference, public service, cataloging, organization, donor relations and acquisitions as well as creating library policies, etc. and all other duties which need to be completed.
A Favorite Duty:
My favorite duty is creating and progressing the organizational structure of the library. It is wonderful to see the excitement from students and faculty as they are continually able to more easily find the music materials they need and are interested in.
A Current Project:
I am currently finishing the process of sorting through thousands of previously donated vinyl records, creating a library collection of these and selling the excess to the community.
Member: Music Library Association (MLA), Canadian Association of Music Libraries (CAML), International Association of Music Libraries (IAML)
Tips for Students:
Take advantage of all the opportunities and possibilities available while in school. IU has one of the biggest, greatest selections of specializations available anywhere. I gained invaluable knowledge and skills from my degree, but especially from my specializations in Music and Rare Books and Manuscripts. You may never know what is available and interests you without exploring them in depth. This could lead to discovering a new passion and avenue for school and the future.
