Transfer Students

Whether you are at another IU campus or are attending another college or university, understanding the steps to transfer to Indiana University Bloomington is important. Below is information about the transfer process, but if you have any questions, you can always contact the Office of Admissions at Indiana University Bloomington at iuadmit@indiana.edu or contact us at soicugrd+recruiting@indiana.edu.

  • Transfer from other College or University

You will need to apply through the IU Bloomington Office of Admissions for domestic admissions, and the Office of International Services for international applicants.

When you apply to IU, list your intended major as either the B.S. in Computer Science or the B.S. in Informatics on the application. The B.A. in Computer Science is in the College of Arts and Sciences and not in the School of Informatics and Computing.

Most incoming transfer students enroll in the University Division for their first semester at IU.  Students later certify into the School of Informatics and Computing after meeting the admission criteria for the Bachelor of Science degree in Informatics or Computer Science.

  • Transfer from another IU Campus

Many students in our school started their career at another IU campus. This process is called intercampus transfer. The Office of Admissions has outlined detailed steps on the intercampus transfer process

  • Credit Transfer

Students admitted to IU will have their credits evaluated to determine which of their credits transfer. Here are some things to know:

    • Only courses with a grade of C or higher will transfer.
    • Grades in courses taken at another college or university will not count towards your IU GPA.
    • Grades in courses taken at another IU campus may count towards your IU GPA.
    • Be sure to investigate how your credit transfers by looking at the IU Credit Transfer Service.
    • Review the academic bulletins for Computer Science B.S. and Informatics B.S. to see how your credits will apply towards your degree.

Most courses taken at another institution in computer science or informatics may transfer in as undistributed credit. You can work with your academic advisor to see if they may be able to count towards your degree.
