Undergraduate

Current IU Students

University Division is the "academic home" for most IU students when they begin their journey to earn their degree. You can still join our student groups and enroll in informatics and computer science courses. You also can meet with our staff to plan your future in SoIC.

Undergraduates who wish to be admitted to the School of Informatics and Computing must first satisfy the following requirements to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Informatics, Bachelor of Science degree in Intelligent Systems Engineering, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science

Students wishing to major in computer science and who have not been directly admitted as a freshman will be enrolled in University Division prior to certifying into SoIC. Undergraduates who wish to be admitted to the School of Informatics and Computing must first satisfy the following requirements:

    • Complete 30 credit hours of course work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
    • Complete the English composition requirement (ENG-W 131 or equivalent) with a minimum grade of C.

After meeting these requirements, you will certify into the School of Informatics and Computing. Students are certified in January, May, and September. You will receive an official letter welcoming you to the school.

If you’re in an academic unit other than UD—for example (EDUC, COLL, SPH...), and are switching from another major—you need to make an appointment with Tiana Williams or Anna Bednarski.
