Data to Insight Center

The Data To Insight Center is a collaborative effort of Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing, the Indiana University Libraries, and Pervasive Technology Institute.

The center carries out foundational research in the social and technical challenges of data use in research and scholarship. It develops innovative tooling and cyberinfrastructure to advance science and scholarship. The Center's projects engage researchers and students in the humanities, sociology, geography, sustainability science, atmospheric science, informatics, computer science and digital libraries.

The center’s main areas of research include Big Data, cloud computing, data provenance, data management, data curation and preservation, data analytics, visualization, and data communities.

The Data To Insight Center is also administrative home to the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC).  HTRC enables computational access to published works stored within the HathiTrust Digital Library, an extensive collaborative digital library of nearly 14 million volumes and 2 billion pages of material maintained by major research institutions and libraries worldwide.

Because of the Data to Insight Center's close working relationship with UITS, the Center is well positioned to engage in projects that can leverage IU's substantial investment in cyberinfrastructure compute and storage resources, and can in turn further strengthen these investments. The Center engages in outreach and education in service to the university and its students, the community, the state of Indiana, and the nation.
