About Us

Facilities and Technology

Technology education and research cannot happen without state-of-the-art facilities. Indiana University Bloomington and the School of Informatics and Computing have made a substantial investment to provide students and faculty with the infrastructure, computing resources, and collaborative space to facilitate learning and inspire discovery. 

Classrooms

Currently, the School of Informatics and Computing is housed in four  main buildings, plus a handful of houses on the Bloomington campus. Additionally, our Center for Research in Extreme Scale Technologies recently moved into a state-of-the-art, 10,000-square foot facility between campus and downtown Bloomington.

Lindley Hall, a four-story complex of classrooms, labs, and offices, is home to our computer science faculty and students. Lindley Hall is one of the original buildings that make up IU’s scenic “Old Crescent.”

The recently renovated Informatics East and Informatics West buildings form a 60,000-square foot complex of informatics classrooms, labs, and offices, including the Informatics Learn Lab, a space filled with the latest in modern classroom technology to facilitate interactive and collaborative learning. In fall 2010, a new 12,000-square foot building connected the two spaces. The new building features a three-story open-plan design and some of the most cutting-edge classroom and office space on campus. It also includes a fully wired courtyard, where students can plug in and power up between classes.

The Herman B Wells Library, with its double towers of Indiana limestone, is the visual center of the multi-library system and houses the Department of Information and Library Science. It holds several classrooms, two computer labs for ILS student use, and the Wells Library Information Commons.

Equipment and Room Reservations

To reserve classroom or presentation equipment (laptops, cameras, portable projectors, teleconferencing, etc.) please use our Service Request Form. To make or review room reservations, use our Meeting Room Manager.

Listservs

We maintain an extensive array of email lists for public and internal communications.

Assistance

We maintain an internal SoIC Knowledge Base where you can go first to get help with a variety of facility or IT related questions. Further help and requests are mainted with our Service Request Form. You can check your open tickets via a web interface.
