Computer engineers are focused on analyzing and solving computer-related problems. Computer engineering includes everything from building more efficient networks to making computer hardware smaller and faster to creating software that will better use the resources at its disposal.
Improving computer architecture, computer network technology, power and energy usage for large-scale computing systems, embedding computing and control, resilience, and robotics are just some of the goals of a computer engineer. As a hands-on problem solver, computer engineers are in high demand from a wide range of industries, including the financial sector, defense contractors, manufacturing, and a host of other areas. Computer engineers make our world more mobile and work with both the body and the mind of computers. The computer engineering cluster will build upon research in the School of Informatics and Computing, including the Center for Research in Extreme Scale Technologies (CREST).
